| 2nd day memory gap |
thought i lost another important training item...my precious name tag!
after calls to my mother as i ask her to search for it in my room, am so anxious that i spent a lot of money producing a name tag just like the one that was given to us!!
no traffic today but more irritations were encountered frequently in the street. parang isinumpa ang mga kalsada ng pilipinas ah!
naaatract ako kay "S" kahit parang may intriga sa kanya. hahahaha. like ko siya kxe parang ang "deep" nya eh pero yung tipong madameng tinatagong kalokohan..
anyway, masyadong good looking for me (ako lang daw nagsabi na good looking siya).
saw robin nga pala kanina, thought he recognized me.
the "oddles" activity kanina is so goooodd!!! makes me laugh hard, ever!
lessons are getting harder and harder..maybe i'll take extra attentikon and study more....

| cyberactivism |
rallies and mobs are nothing new to me. housed in a university known for student activism for four years, the imbibed spirit of activism resides within me, a stroke of resistance and a mind for political and nationalistic stand, firm with precision.
i've been in a few rallies. the first experience was a surreal blur. imagine a mass crowd of individuals, jingles and chantings provided the background music. everyone was sweaty, standing hours and hours under the scorching heat of the sun while listening to fiery words the speaker is throwing to heat up the mob. yet the there is that strange feeling, of exhilaration, of joy and of freedom. am swelling with pride having the ultimate chance of screaming for my right. the right to express my self. the gift of democracy. the feeling that every muscle ache and every drop of sweat on my forehead and at my back were gift for my country. and offering and contribution for my fellow Filipino youth and the entire nation.
but times are changing. little by little, mass of youth declines in the attendance of street march and staged rallies. the definition itself of activism has long been twisted and used for political intention. the noble signifance, stained by selfish motives. and a number of people changes their perception with people marching, chanting slogans, painting the town red with their bold placards, streamers and other gimmicks. the term activism got equated with peace disturbance. even terrorism.
all thanks to mrs. arroyo's contribution. her intelligent choice of words averted people's senses with fearsome terms. no more declaration of martial law; only the passing of Presidential Proclamation 1017 which basis is the same used in marcos era. no more seizures, trials and imprisonments for members of the leftist group; only silent killings, or shall we say extrajudicial killings. newspapers bore the headlines 'armed rebel killed in military encounter.' no-permit-no-rally policies, cameras installed at rally points, mrs. arroyo or rather his appointed minions watching leftist people like a hawk. the country is now hardzone for activists.
that is when activism also has to keep up with the change. and what more better tool to employ for a country struggling to shape itself in a computer age, 'course there's the Internet. the cyberspace transcends boundaries of streets. it downplays the timelimit set to stage a protest. no more police barricading holding shields and woods, armed with teargas, behind a waiting firetruck. a new strategy is needed. cyberactivism is born.
networkedpublics.org defines cyberactivism as "a means by which advanced information and communication technologies, e.g. e-mail, list-serv, and the world wide web of the Internet, are used by individuals and groups to communicate with large audiences, galvanizing individuals around a specific issue or set of issues in an attempt to build solidarity towards meaningful collective actions." basically, the prime component of cyberactivism is the new technology itself. the internet or the cyberspace being the world's venue today for exchange of information becomes the new perfect place to mount protest, reaching a vast number of faceless people.
probably, we can trace back the history of cyberactivism in the Philippines during the genesis of edsa dos. text messages flooded, mostly among the youth encouraging everyone to get out on the street and lament for the defeat of truth, slammed by a brown envelope. the chain of messages turned to a chain of people marching off the street. more text messages sent, more people came. this use of the recent technology during that time created a bigger impact. and that is the reason why the youth sector comprised the biggest chunk of crowd gathered in edsa shrine that ousted joseph estrada.
with the growing influence of internet, the trend changes. facebooks, twitters and blogsites were in! discussions with the current political state mounted in the world wide web. no one has to go out of the confinement of their comfort zone. oppositionist lawmakers micro blogging while engaging a sizzling debate on the house' floor. online protest group were formed, open for everyone to become a member. information received - no sweat at all. its unstoppable!
with all its popularity and being mighty comes its down points. admit it or not, not everyone is taking this seriously. unlike street marches, having the will power to stand up for hours and all the other inconveniences is really saying a lot! writing blog entries, joining discussions and threads and even signing up for advocacies and protests group online - then what? what happens now after this? what is the next move? 'course it's all good and dandy. knowledge is power as manong ernie would put it. and being informed is definitely a good start, but forgetting the keypoint which is the action part shouldn't be missed. we have to use that acquired information in order step of, move forward and lead for the better change.
cyberactivism is indeed powerful! the Filipino youth, being the main patronizer of it should be responsible enough in taking advantage of all its good qualities. shaping and re-defining activism to fit the challenges of modern world is a task given to us and must be taken seriously. cyberactivism might not be all good like any other. but given the right motive and the right steer, then we're definitely hitting the right track, a major step towards a glorious change.Labels: cyberactivism, definition of cyberactivism, internet activism, protests at facebook |

| a requiem for the king of pop |
the world lost it's king of pop in the person of Michael Jackson as generations after generations will forever remain witnesses to a music that surely will resonate boundless and timeless. no matter his faults maybe, no matter how insolent those rumors probably, not a single soul in the world is disgruntled with the fine and exceptional entertainment, of a music so true this man contributed on his years a nd years of stay in the industry. personally, i felt guilty having laughed with those comedy skits and sketches, of those spoofs and lampoon movies portraying the king in a very demeaning acts. but hey, it's hollywood afterall. and Michael Jackson will be Michael Jackson with or without those taunts. of all those almost magical songs he did, i guess my money is on "black or white." maybe because the music transcends countries and continents, ethnicity and races and the ideal to real! a reminder that in the end, ones' skin color, language or culture are all trash and insignificant when we meet our own end. the singer may be gone, but the music will linger. thank you for a beautiful music. for reminding us of its power and worth. | katrina halili slams medical group |
the truth is i don’t want to bother writing my opinion regarding this issue since i’d rather play restaurant city. but then after reading and hearing news about it, words just inevitably started blurting out of my brain and so here i am, typing words out of my thought. am just starting to get sick of this katrina halili’s saga of sex video scandal. hearing that she’s filing a petition to order closure of the belo medical clinic is just stepping out of her bounds. her real intention behind all of this is the real question. if she wants her life back i think she can land on more intelligent plan rather than posing as a cry baby and scaredy helpless pussycat in front of flashing cameras for the whole world to watch. viewers were not idiot. it is still fresh in their minds that she just had an affair with a guy who’s already in a relationship with other woman. and what’s more is that she’s pretty well aware of it. now, you would probably call me a prejudiced but i am just stating a fact. a fact that the entire country is well aware off. ‘course am not condemning ms. katrina halili with whatever deed she commited. be it having an illicit affair plus the bonus evidence of her nookie with hayden kho any many other controversial thing she did. ms. katrina halili might be missing the essential point here. if she considers herself as a victim, then dra. vicki belo is undoubtedly in the same boat as her. as a columnist would put it, she was the first to victimized dra. belo! the liposuction procedure was done three years ago, and now she’s complaining for malpractice? i think the viewers and readers can add one to two to relaize the true motive behind this facade. just to make it clear, am not siding with dra. vicki belo coz i don’t think she’s that all white as sheet innocent, but that’s not the main point of this post anyway. to end, let me quote Philippine Star’s columnist Domini M. Torrevillas saying: Let’s hope that the move to target Belo and her clinics is not on the prodding of those around her (Katrina) who are blinded by peso signs in their eyes. It would be a disservice to Katrina who initially won widespread sympathy but may lose it if she keeps up with mindlessly sniping at those whom her advisers feel are potential sources of funds. Well said.

| the battle of Iranians |

i am almost in tears watching and reading the current updates with the present political and social climate in Iran. i envy them. how i envy those Iranians. the fight for a single vote becomes a saga of democracy. of freedom and lawful. of thirst and disgust. and of a fight for a worthy leader, a genuine choice of people of whom he is to govern.
the courage of Iran's people is admirable. just seeing everyone, regardless of respective stature in life, marching off the streets, screaming and shouting for a right taken out of their grasp. doctors, nurses, students and even the Iranian national soccer team wearing green arm bands in their latest fight in Seoul, join hand in hand in telling their fellow Iranians and the entire world the current state of their prized country.
for those who missed following on Iran's polls, protests began to mount after the questionable announcement of win for incumbent President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad against popular opposition candidate Mir Hossein Mousavi. days and days of peaceful mobs met an increasing ferocious response from government authorities. with Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei changing sides from a recount of votes to finally in support of the incumbent president's win, the wind change drastically into a huge tumult. cries challenging the spiritual, moral, and political supremacy of the supreme leader echoes and the country went unrest challenging between righteous to democratic.
the scenes were familiar, i noticed. and probably that's what made me close in tears. i am looking for signs of probably not same but close enough intensity of resistance among us. when whining turns mobilizing. when sleeping becomes marching. the tables had turned. the character and plot were present, though not the exact ensemble. the main executives know better. they won't light a fire to burn themselves. neither that they're gonna use spices. especially the same one they procure in their own rotting dishes.Labels: democracy, election, iran election, iran protests |

| maricar reyes meets santino |
just a few hours ago, i saw a plug with maricar reyes being the next guest at today's highest rating drama series in primetime "may bukas pa." i guess her character is like a "taong grasa" and its is hard to figure out yet if she's portraying a role of mentally challenged woman, but the catch is people are not just staying away from her, but even pushing and driving her away, making rude gestures and hurting her physically. the drama unfolds as her life is touched by the miracle boy santino, another tear-jerker moment am sure we don't want to miss. after series of controversies with her being involved in a circus like scandals of sex videos, maricar remains composed (or so it seemed) regarding the issue. i don't know if you'll believe me if i say that i haven't watch yet a single video of her taking a nookie with equally controversial doctor hayden kho, but yes i am telling you now that i haven't. 'course am planning on taking a peek with one of those hot videos just so to have an idea of what the whole town is talking about. anyway, i was told that in the latest addition on this saga of sex videos, many people noticed that maricar seemed to be aware that she was being videotaped in one of her most private activity with dr. hayden kho. actually that didn't bother me that much. if the claims were correct, maricar and hayden were dating..or rather boyfriends and girlfriends during that time. and so we aren't born in 1860's to be shocked by the idea of people engaging in premarital sex. i don't think we have the right to question their intention in video taping themselves. am always saying this, but i just think that that act doesn't require any explanation. they just did it! so what? the only problem is that it leaked out and so they're suffering the consequences of people being prejudiced and stereotyped. i have to admit, am excited with the idea of her tv appearance, especially that it's goin' to be in "may bukas pa." i can see the parallelism of her real life situation and the character she's portraying. stained though it may be her reputation was, i just don't think that the totality of her being a person matches well with the scandal she's on. sabi nga ni bro di ba, kung sino ang walang kasalanan siyang unang bumato. =) Labels: maricar-reyes-hayden-kho-scandal3 |

| The President in Silent Mode |
I am beginning to notice something. Our president looks as if she was avoiding her own people. Mostly, her Executive Secretary and Press Secretary and other numerous minions would face the media to answer queries concerning the country. What with the country being flooded with numerous dilemmas, few were the wide spread of A(H1N1) virus, the remaining captive of Abu Sayaf and more extrajudicial killings which includes innocent farmers who are only vying for their chance to live though their supposed to be owned land. More alarming is the inclusion of the country with the United States' watchlist of countries suspected of not doing enough to combat human trafficking, saying that the Philippines is a "source, transit and destination country for men, women and children trafficked for commercial sexual exploitation and forced labor." Now, where is the president? Mrs. Arroyo is in for her usual State visits. So you would probably excuse her saying these out of the country exits are significant to further strengthen our ties with other nation. And that it would benefit us in the end..etcetera etcetera. The usual words. So I think, we have to flip back a few pages on our diary of Mrs. Arroyo and look for words she delivered that would address the conflicts facing the country nowadays. I bet you wouldn't find one! Even the much talked about charter change via a constituent assembly and rumors of her running for a Congressional sea, the talks were blurted by her minions. To name a few, there is Lorelei Fajardo, Speaker Nograles, her son Mikey Arroyo. Secretary Duque of the Department of Health carries the huge burden of the fast widespread of swine flu, yet he haven't declared any instruction the president could have given him. So, why Mrs. Arroyo is silent nowadays? Actually let me take that back! She's only not talking in front of us. She's out there making all big speeches defining her "good governance" and how the Philippines is coping up with the world experiencing financial crisis under her leadership. Even taking credits for her so called economic plans, when no one in the country is experiencing thos imaginary success. She even talked about her plans on reviving the Bataan Nuclear Power Plant in front of other nations, whereas she never even consulted her people who might be the first to be directly affected by this ambitious plan of hers. According to an article at inquirer.net, when she finished swinging in Russia, South Korea, Japan and Brazil, she would now have the record of 52 trips to 30 countries in eight years along with a variably large delegation. I wonder how many speech she prepared or rather her speech maker made to gear up for her numerous meetings with foreign leaders and dignitaries. All these talks and still no words of concrete plans for her people. Plans that should be addressed directly to her people's ears. Why isn't she talking to us? I don't know. And I am sorry I cannot answer that here in my post. But one day for sure... she will have to answer to us all.
